14 Loop Street in Cape Town's CBD is an example of an historical building/office block that has been updated in a green way. Refurbishment of the historic 1904 building was done using recycled materials. The project incorporated rainwater collection and reuse, and energy-efficient design improvements.
The internal design of the building is geared towards energy efficiency. The installation of ducted VRV air conditioning saves 30% more power than a console, while the VRV system is emission-friendly.
The water savings are driven by the installation of waterless urinals and dual-flush toilets. Rain water is collected on the roof and used as greywater.
