14 Loop Street in Cape Town's CBD is an example of an historical building/office block that has been updated in a green way. Refurbishment of the historic 1904 building was done using recycled materials. The project incorporated rainwater collection and reuse, and energy-efficient design improvements.

The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) works with their membership community to champion the development and adoption of best green building practices so that all buildings are designed, built and operated in an environmentally sustainable way.

Originally constructed to house the Tsoga Environmental Centre, this eco-friendly building now houses a temporary computer centre. As the building neared completion, Tsoga (a community-based NGO that aids the environment and is involved in social upliftment) unfortunately lost their funding.
