The Cape Town Green Map commits to ensuring your privacy is protected.

This privacy policy describes what information is collected by the Cape Town Green Map website and how it is used.  This policy may be updated in future and you should check this page periodically to be kept up to date with changes. This policy is effective from 1 April 2009.

What personal information Cape Town Green Map collects

To make use of some of the features on the Cape Town Green Map site such as signing up for the newsletter, commenting on posts and news stories, and applying to join the mapmaking team etc. requires registering on the website.

Using the “suggest a site” feature also requires supplying personal information.

We may collect the following information from you on registering or on suggesting a site:

  • First Name and Surname
  • Location (the city or town or suburb in which you live)
  • Gender
  • Email address


The Cape Town Green Map website uses a session cookie to control the display of the site.  The cookie is stored on the user's computer. This is a feature of the content management system we use and no personally identifiable information (email address, name, etc.) is collected with the cookies that we set. Accepting cookies while on the Cape Town Green Map site will not put the user at risk for marketing to other sites.

IP addresses are stored to gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.

What we do with the information we gather

We will not share, sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties. We will not disclose your personal information unless we are required by law to do so.

We may share aggregated demographic information with our partners, sponsors, and donors for the purpose of fundraising and promotion.

If you have subscribed to our newsletter your details will be used to notify you of news, events or services that may be of interest to you. Your email address will never be shared with or sold to any third party.

You may unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time by logging in to your account on the website and deselecting the “Subscribe to the bi-monthly newsletter” checkbox. Alternatively email info@capetowngreenmap.co.za to be removed from the mailing list.

Open Green Map

The Cape Town Green Map website makes use of the Open Green Map platform provided by Green Map System. When interacting with the embedded interactive map on the Cape Town Green Map you are also using the Open Green Map website.

Open Green Map requires anyone posting comments, impacts, ratings, videos, photos, etc. to provide a Screen name that is public and an email address and name that will be used for internal purposes only and will not be sold to or shared with any third parties.

Sitemakers

Individuals or organisations that would like to add multiple sites to the Cape Town Green Map can register as a Sitemaker. This entails registration on the Open Green Map website and is subject to Open Green Map’s privacy policy and terms and conditions.

Except for the Screen name which is public, the required name, email address, and other information will be used for Open Green Map internal purposes only and will not be sold to or shared with any third parties.
