Vegetable And Herb Garden Set to Grow In The Heart Of The City

The City of Cape Town has unveiled the Dutch-period Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (VOC) vegetable and herb garden in the Company’s Garden.

The VOC vegetable garden will showcase the historical origins of the Company’s Garden as a food source. It will be a working vegetable and herb garden which will include historical herb varieties, fruit trees and vegetables, a demonstration food garden, an edible indigenous plant garden and an indigenous medicinal herb garden.

Range of Activities For Kids To Choose From This School Holiday

City of Cape Town's departments are offering a range of activities to keep your children entertained and occupied during the July school holiday.

The programme includes educational hikes, outdoor field trips at the nature reserves, sporting activities, and fun at the library.

Cape Town's Boomslang Aerial Tree Canopy Walkway Opens

The much anticipated "Boomslang" aerial tree canopy walkway in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical gardens is now open to the public.

A visit to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens is always a fun and memorable experience.

As part of their centenary celebrations though a new addition to the gardens is the tree canopy aerial walkway, affectionately known as the "boomslang".

This design marvel is an elevated walkway that meanders through the tree tops at a very gentle gradient.

The City Parks Department was, on 20 May 2014, awarded a Silver-Gilt in the Flora category at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show.

The exhibition, themed ‘The Wonders of Cape Town’ is set against the backdrop of Table Mountain – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World – and showcases fynbos endemic to the Cape Floral Kingdom, including proteas, restios and pincushions. The City secured an exhibition spot in the Great Pavilion which is traditionally a space for awe-inspiring displays.
