Lentegeur Spring festival, 24 September 2014

Lentegeur - #WDC331

The Lentegeur Spring Project will re-establish the hospital as a “Green” hospital.

This Spring Day join the community at Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital as they break down stereotypes and showcase the work they do with the community:
•    For too long, psychiatric institutions have been associated with profoundly negative images of mental health care. Lentegeur Hospital is no different; a legacy of apartheid planning in the midst of impoverished communities on the Cape Flats, and it remains as a powerful reminder of segregation and forced removal.
•    By using the beautiful metaphor contained in the name Lentegeur, which, translated means “the essence of spring” this project is changing everything about this hospital. Spring is about the rebirth of hope. We are inviting the people of Cape Town to come to Lentegeur on 24 September to see this rebirth in action and to join with us in being a part of it.
•    The Lentegeur Spring Project will re-establish the hospital as a “Green” hospital. The redeveloped green space will be used for the rehabilitation of those with mental illness, to uplift their communities and to establish the hospital as a leader in mental health, with a particular focus on community and the environment. “Our task is to rediscover ourselves in nature,” Dr Ian McCallum
•    Soli Philander confirmed as MC for the opening, performances by Riaad Moosa, Chester Missing and Calvin Benson, speaking appearances by David Grier (Great wall of China run and motivational speaker), Dr Don Pinnock on gangs, Dr Ian McCallum and Leonie Joubert.
