Green Map goes to print

This is an invitation to all Capetonians, as well as the commercial sector, to submit your green sites for inclusion in the Cape Town Green Map, or simply suggest a green site here that is meaningful to you.

We are about to start the process of selection of listings for the print version of the map, due out in October 2009.

To be considered for the printed version you will already need to be listed on the online Cape Town Green Map, dependent on whether you meet these criteria.

One of the major aims of the Cape Town Green Map is to promote responsible tourism, as well as to create an incentive to the commercial sector of Cape town to adopt more sustainable practices.

The printed version of the map will give a sense of 'green Cape Town' (a snapshot), concentrating on sites that focus on the responsible tourist and on being a responsible citizen of Cape Town.

As such, all the green sites selected for the print version should also be visitable, be established and fully operational, and within Cape Town's municipal boundaries. These are additional criteria over and above those already established for the map that will guide the steering committee's selection process.

The Cape Town Green Map is one of the 2010 Green Goal projects, the environmental programme for the 2010 FIFA World Cup ™ . Whilst the printed version due out in October will be influenced by the landmark sports event, the website version of the Cape Town Green Map will continue to evolve as an inclusive and collective effort to represent the natural, cultural and sustainable living sites that are green Cape Town.
